An industrial design project, minimalistic and functional, developed starting from the ancient knowledge of traditional umbrella makers, to transform an artisan object that has become disposable, into a serial object, long lasting and that can be repaired indefinitely. A research conducted independently by Italian designers Gianluigi Frezzini and Fabrizio Galliano, which for now is a self-production looking for investors. U211 is a project of industrial design to turn the disposable, hand-made umbrellas, to an endless repairability, where everything is detachable and recyclable. The bar is made of aluminum, the mechanism with PETG plastic (for 3D printing), and the cover with recycled textiles. There are only two screws in U211: one for handle and one to tighten the entire mechanism. When, as usually happens, they break, each joint can be easily detached and replaced. The project has been developed with the contribution of Ombrellificio Torinese.
