University programs and Research Centers on the design of the future have already started to work on repair as a potential response to the problem of the environmental impact of waste, especially in the case of discarded electronics (e-waste).

At the end of their 2019 Master’s program in design, which dedicated, amongst others a workshop to the theme of repair, Liu University of Linkoping, set up the “Design4Repair” exhibition, conceived to show the hypotheses proposed by the students regarding repairability, and food for thought on how to address the problem of system-level repair. The individual projects of the students showed that repair can be visible and beautiful at the same time, adding value to the broken object rather than detracting from it.
